Well, according to a Physical Therapist named Gray Cook, the key is, "You can’t put fitness on dysfunction." The main focus of our exercise program is to prevent injuries before thinking about fat loss, weight loss, muscle building, or performance enhancement. If you're injured, none of those goals matter because you can't train.

So, before you exercise, it's important to check your "human movement" through a quality assessment called the Functional Movement Screen (FMS). This quick and easy test helps identify movement issues and asymmetry, reducing the risk of injury. The FMS is simple, reliable, and effective, providing benefits like identifying injury risks, improving movement patterns, monitoring progress, and creating a baseline for exercises.

The FMS consists of seven tests that balance mobility and stability – crucial elements for movement patterns. If there are limitations in either, the FMS will find them. Once a dysfunction is revealed, the FMS and corrective exercise system work their magic by implementing appropriate exercises to fix the problem.

The history of the FMS dates back to around 2001 when Physical Therapist Gray Cook developed it. The goal was to use the screen to understand movement problems and choose the best exercises for individuals, minimizing the risk of injury.

The FMS is for everyone – healthy, active individuals, and those who want to become more active. It's designed for those without pain or injury. The saying "something is only as strong as its weakest link" holds true for the FMS, as it aims to identify and correct weak links in fundamental movement patterns, promoting better health through better movements!
